During the last years, multilevel models have been used frequently to analyse longitudinal data, especially in the field of education.

this search presents an application of this methodology in medical field, and the advantages of these models over classical methods are discussed.

the motivation stems from an anesthesiology problem in which it is desired to study the influence of two anesthetic induction devices on blood pressure.

the application highlights the potential of multilevel models for longitudinal data analysis.
