The city of al-Farama has acquired great historical importance through the ages due to its distinguished geographical location, which the study clarified in the light of the most prominent geographical sources, as it is considered the key to the eastern gateway to Egypt.

the name of the city appeared in the sources of the era of the crusades from Latin, Islamic, Coptic and Armenian sources in the midst of king Baldwin I’s campaign (1100-1118 AD) over Egypt.

it is worth mentioning that the idea of the crusaders to control Egypt is as old as the crusade itself and this movement has been linked to the names of many cities.

Baldwin I’s campaign is associated with some notable events such as the death of king Baldwin, and this campaign led to several results; the most important of which is the change of the Fatimid policy towards the crusader presence...
