This paper consists of an introduction, a preface, one research topic, and a conclusion.

The introduction touches on the importance of the topic, the reasons for choosing it, a review of previous studies, and the research methodology adopted.

The preface introduces the subtopics, which are four as follows: a definition of the debt effect, exemption from zakah, a definition of the debt, and a definition of zakah.

This study deals with the debt as a potential reason for exempting the debtor from paying the zakah for the amount of money equivalent to the debt.

It discusses the following five points: first, defining the disputed area; second, scholars' opinions on this issue: third, reasons for their disagreement; fourth, scholars' statements, discussions, and their evidence as well as other scholars' responses to them; and fifth, preference of specific opinions and reasons for this preference.

The conclusion contains the most important findings and recommendations.

One of the most important findings of the research is that scholars' statements fall into four opinions regarding the exemption of the debtor from paying the zakah for the money equivalent to the debt, and that the debtor should not count altogether on the opinion that exempts the debtor from zakah.
