Abstract EN
Visceral leishmaniasis must be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of febrile splenomegalies.
We describe a case of visceral leishmaniasis in a 2 year-old Yemeni male.
Diagnosis of leishmaniasis was significantly delayed because the patient had previously received anti-malarial drugs because of the positive result of a blood film for malaria.
The diagnosis was confirmed by the presence of amastigote forms in macrophages of the bone marrow aspirate.
The patient was successfully treated with stibogluconate (Pentostam).
