تقدم هذه الرسالة دراسة مقارنة بين رواية الرجل الأخير" للأديبة ماري شيلي و رواية "إيبولا 76 " للأديب أمير تاج السر، حيث تبحث في أوجه التشابه و الاختلاف بين العملين اللذين كتبا من قبل كاتبين مختلفين من ناحية المنشأ و الثقافة و اللغة و يكتبان في زمنين مختلفين ايضا و مع هذا فإن هنالك أوجه تشابه في وجهة نظرهما في تصوير ردود افعال البشر في الاوقات الصعبة و بخاصة في اوقات الجوائح.

اعتمدت هذه الدراسة على مناهج و أساليب الأدب المقارن و المنهج التحليلي لدراسة العملين الأدبيين و تقديم تحليل للأفكار الرئيسية و الشخصيات الرئيسية في كلا الروايتين يرتكز التحليل على مناقشة فكرتين رئيسيتين و هما كيفية قدرة البشر على ادراك جوهر الحياة و عيش حياة ذات معنى خلال زمن الجوائح بالاضافة الى مناقشة قدرة الانسان على الحفاظ على الأخلاق الحميدة خلال هذه النكبات.

على الرغم من وجود اختلافات بين العملين الأدبيين، إلا أن هنالك الكثير من أوجه التشابه بينهما و التي تشير الى انه على الرغم من الاختلافات الكثيرة بين البشر و لكن في النهاية الجميع يرغب بالحصول على معنى حقيقي و عميق للحياة.

يشترك العملين في تقديم فكرة عميقة عن سعي الانسان و أن يشعر بأن حياته لها قيمة و مغزى.

English Abstract

This thesis introduces a comparative study between The Last Man by Mary Shelley (1826) and Ebola 76 by Amir Tag Elsir (2012).

It examines the similarities and differences between the two narratives with a view to finding out how the two mentioned novels are written by two different writers who also belong to different cultures, times and languages, but nonetheless, they have similarities in their perspectives on human beings’ responses during harsh circumstances specifically epidemics and pandemics.

Adopting the methodologies of comparative literature and analytical approach, the study explores the two works depending on introducing a comparison based on analysing the main themes and characters in the two novels.

The analysis focuses on two major themes in the narratives that discuss how human beings can capture the essence of life and make their lives meaningful during epidemics and pandemics.

It also tries to illustrate the ability of humans to deploy their morality and ethics during such catastrophic times.

Although, there are differences between the two literary works, they share many similarities.

This indicates that no matter who people are or where they come from or what they do in life, they desire to search for meaning in their life.

Shelley’s and Elsir’s narratives share thoughtful ideas about how people seek to feel that their lives are meaningful and significant.
