In the human and social sciences, the most widely used approaches are positivism and post-positivism, constructivism, and the interpretative approach.

The aim of this treatment is to clarify the nature and characteristics of certain positivist approaches, and assumptions, as well as ways of justifying the scientific knowledge associated with them in quantitative research so that the researcher and the reader are aware of them.
