Abstract EN

This study deals with the information contained in the contents of the cuneiform texts of the phenomenon of fraud during the Sumerian, Babylonian and Assyrian eras by certain people at that time.

As it is understood from the contents of the available cuneiform texts that are relevant to the nature of text and fraud and their types to seize money and movable and immovable property by deliberate deceptive practices and outrageous behavior of the customs and traditions of society and the legal systems issued by the kings and rulers in ancient Iraq.

Fraud is one of the forms of crime that was carried out against other individuals and made them victims of these fraudulent practices when dealing with some fraudulent persons.

The fraudulent methods were multiple, including fraud, forgery and the acquisition of others' property through theft or various illegal and deceptive ways that resulted in the loss of money.

These practices were considered misdemeanors and crimes of extortion of others by deception, false pretexts and distortion.

In addition, the old Iraqi legislator was keen to set legal provisions for how to deal with these areas, control them and punish the perpetrators, to avoid making individuals victims of these practices.

Further, if someone falls into fraud and swindle when dealing with extortionists.

These legal steps were important to reduce damage and provide legal support and protection by taking various procedures that would also recover those funds and take actions to confront fraud and warn people against falling into fraud and swindling operations.
