Plato was one of the most prominent philosophers who set opinions on art and beauty.

his interest in poetry and the many aesthetic visions and ideas he adopted could be seen through what he read of homer's epics and the power of attraction and magic they have.

therefore, researchers consider Plato as the first Greek philosopher to have a philosophical stand in the philosophy of beauty where he established beauty as an example in his theory of «ideals», and, consequently, beauty was seen for itself.

Plato’s interest in art does not mean that he agreed with all the poets', sages', sculptors' and others' opinions that appeared before him; he criticized many of those perceptions raised by some of them, rejecting a type of poetry that was rejected by his teacher Socrates.

for the latter, the mind dictates that he fights against the sensual tendency that artists of his time followed, relying, in their depictions and sculptures, on presenting the tangible reality in all its details without referring to the old rules.

since philosophy uses reason and logic as the means and method to prove its issues, Socrates does not find poetry an entry, not even a place among philosophical investigations.
