In a fast-changing environment, the Arab newspapers are struggling to survive, this study identifies the journalists' perceptions of the suitable business models, through interviews with 161 journalists in the UAE, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
the study revealed the existence of a pessimistic view of journalists about the future of journalism, and the lack of confidence of journalists in public support.
they expected the disappearance of some newspapers soon, and the failure of business models based on paying for content.
they call for promoting paid con-tent, maintaining government support, and not to abandon the traditional model based on advertising, distribution, and external support.
they demanded to take advantage of partnerships with social media, and adopt a combination of sever-al business models, promote of a pay-based business model, implement the digital transformation in editorial and administration procedures, and qualify journalists to deliver innovative content.
