The concept of sustainability and sustainable development constitutes an increasing interest in developed countries and has become a necessary requirement for all countries of the world in recent times, especially in developing countries, to reach a sustainable urban environment compatible with the local environment; it is related to one of the difficult challenges, which is achieving a balance between achieving urban development and preserving the environment in the so-called sustainable development, where sustainability works to reduce waste and pollutants, which the construction sector is one of the most important causes, preserve the natural resource base for the future, provide an appropriate environment for the population, preserve cultural heritage, and promote the level of life of the community.

in this context, the research discusses how to reach new sustainable urban communities by studying the foundations and theoretical design principles to achieve the sustainability of urban communities, which contributes to the design and planning of new sustainable urban communities, despite the global interest in achieving sustainability in urban communities and various projects.

however, it has not received sufficient attention in Egypt, where the new urban communities suffer from shortcomings in the application of the concepts and dimensions of sustainability (environmental, economic, social, and cultural), through the analysis of international and Arab experiences of successful new urban communities in achieving sustainability and activating the design foundations and principles of sustainability and drawing lessons learned from them.
