Investigating of syntactic English verb difficulties that face EFL Iraqi students at secondary school

Abstract EN

This study deals with different forms of verbs and it aims to describe the verbs and their different kinds, namely, transitive, intransitive, full verbs, primary verbs, auxiliary verbs, inchoative verbs and causative verbs.

this study is also testing Iraqi students’ ability in correctly using these verbs.

to achieve these aims, a test has been conducted on sixty students from different stages at al-rabab’s secondary school for the academic year 2021-2020.

it has been found that the level of difficulty of the test range between ) (44,5) (13,5) (6,6) the result showed that EFL students demonstrated poor scores in giving the past form and the past participle.

but the study showed better in their ability of choosing the correct form of transitive and intransitive verbs.

this study is divided in to four sections : - section one deals with the problem that sheds light on verbs and their kinds and how the Iraqi EFL can use them.

section two describes the kinds of verb and the different functions for each one.

section three deals with the methodology part of the paper, including population of the study, samples of the study, instruments of the study, experiment design, data collection, validity and reliabilities of the study, and the result.

section four contains findings, recommendations, and suggestions.

finally, the researcher presents the conclusion.
