The present study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a program based on the representative method for improving some language skills among pupils with mild Intellectual Disability (ID).
The quasi-experimental approach has been used in the study.
The sample consisted of 16 pupils with ID who were divided into two groups: (8) an experimental group, and (8) a control group, with ages ranging from eight to eleven years of age.
Homogeneity between the two groups was verified using chronological age and IQ score.
The researchers used the language skills scale (Prepared by/ Al-Dossary, 2015) and a training program based on representative method to improve some language skills (Prepared by the researchers).
The study program involved 18 sessions to help develop the pupils' receptive and expressive language skills.
The results revealed the effectiveness of the training program based on the representative method in improving some language skills among pupils with ID.
In addition, there were differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group and the control group after applying the program on the language skills scale (receptive language and expressive language) at a significance level of (0.05) in favor of the experimental group.
Moreover, there were significant differences in the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group on the language skills scale (receptive language and expressive language) between pre and post measurements at a significance level (0.05) in favor of the post measurement.
The results also revealed that the study program has a strong effect on the experimental group.
These findings revealed the effectiveness of the study program based on the representative method in developing the language skills among pupils with mild ID.
