Abstract EN

Gender, according to the definition of the United Nations Development Fund for Women: It is the socially defined roles of male and female, and these roles change over time and vary widely within one culture and from one culture to another, and the World Health Organization defines it as the characteristics that men and women have as socially complex traits that have nothing to do with differences.

Member- ship, in other words, gender is the image in which society views male and female.

This research aims to highlight the role of gender in achieving development goals in all its dimensions.

The study also showed the issue of gender as the most promi- nent sustainable development challenge in Iraq.

The research focused on a number of geographical data through which it is noted that there are clear differences in gender between males and females, which are: Poverty, unemployment, education and gender equality, which confirms the masculinity of society and the decline of the principle of justice and equality.

The research also gave a terminological and conceptual concept of gender, and the researcher did not overlook the impact of environmental threats on the reality of gender equality.

The study was carried out according to the analytical descriptive approach, using the statistical method for this method, which played a role in proving the research hypothesis.

It was found through the research that there are vast differences in all the variables of the study between males and females, and that customs and tradi-tions still stand as a stumbling block in the way of women's advancement and their assumption of their real role and status, a problem that needs This problem is con- sidered one of the most important challenges of sustainable development in Iraq, and the researcher has given a number of proposals that would address the problem under study, overcome its difficulties and contribute to limiting its negative effects.
