Abstract EN

The first objective behind this research is to evaluate the performance of Arabic language teachers in metacognitive thinking skills.

The second objective is to identify the statistically significant differences in metacognitive thinking skills between the two genders.

The researcher applied the study on a sample of (30) male and female teachers of Arabic language in high schools of Baghdad / Rusafa the third, they were randomly selected of (15%) divided equally between male and female.

The researcher followed the descriptive scale in executing the research resulted in the three Likert scale and the evidence was treated statistically, the results showed that Arabic language teachers decreased in following strategies to solve the problems they face, and their weakness in searching for thoughts-provoking questions that attract students’ attention and draw them to towards subject.

It was found that there are no statistically significant differences in the skill of planning or the skill of monitoring and controlling which the significant difference appeared in favor of the male teachers and the evaluation skill in which the difference was in favor of the female teachers.

Finally, the researcher recommends a number of recommendations and suggestions.
