Arabic Abstract

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل الفصول السنة الأولى من الرواية الموسومة بعنوان مغامرات أليس في بلاد العجائب للكاتب لويس كارول، وذلك بغرض تقصي تواتر أنواع حالات التعدي في الفصول المختارة، ومن أجل الكشف عن ماهية تفسير حالات التعدي السائدة لشخصية بطلة الرواية.

وبناء على نظام التعدية المطور من قبل Halliday and Matthiessen (2004) والذي يعتبر جزءاً من النظام اللغوي الوظيفي النظامي (SFL)، تم تصنيف بيادات الدراسة وتحديدها في ضوء الإطار النظري، ومن ثم تحليلها بناءً على الخبرة اللغوية للباحث حول موضوع الدراسة، بجانب الملاحظة الناقدة والمركزة للدراسات السابقة التي أجراها الباحثون.

تضمنت الدراسة في تصميمها على المنهج النوعي والوصفي كمنهاجاً للبحث، حيث يتم عرض بيانات الدراسة في جداول موضحة القيم العددية والتكرارات والنسب المئوية لكل نوع من أنواع حالات التعدي، والتي تم مناقشتها وتفسيرها.

تكشف نتائج الدراسة عن وجود ستة أنواع من حالات التعدي في عينة الدراسة وهي: الحالة المادية، والحالة العقلية، والحالة العلائقية، والحالة السلوكية، والحالة اللفظية، والحالة الوجودية.

وتشير النتائج أيضاً إلى أن الحالة المادية هي حالة التعدي السائدة من بين جميع الحالات الأخرى، حيث تشكل نسبة 38.070%، ثم تليها الحالة العقلية باعتبارها ثاني حالة تعدي سائدة مشكلة نسبة 21.157 ، وتتمثل الحالة العلائقية كثالث حالات التعدي السائدة مشكلة نسبة 17.749%.

علاوة على ذلك، تظهر النتائج أن شخصية بطلة الرواية تتمثل من خلال حالة التعدي المادية كشخصية ديناميكية، شغوفة بالاكتشاف، وفصولية، ومغامرة ونشطة وحيوية.

وتمثل حالة التعدي العقلية شخصية بطلة الرواية بأنها شخصية رصيدة وفطنة وطموحة.

أما حالة التعدي العلائقية، فقد تمثل شخصية بطلة الرواية بأنها شخصية عاطفية، ومفكرة، ومعتزة بهويتها.

وتم تقديم عدداً من المقترحات ذات الاختصاص لأغراض البحث المستقبلية وذلك بناة على النتائج البحثية لهذه الدراسة.

English Abstract

The present study aims at analyzing the first six chapters of a novel, entitled Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, in order to investigate the frequency of occurrence of transitivity process-types in the selected chapters, and to investigate the way the most frequently occurring transitivity processes construe the protagonist's character/sin the aforementioned novel.

Adopted Halliday and Matthiessen's (2004) transitivity system that is part of the Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL), the data of the study is categorized, identified -in the light of the theoretical frameworkand analyzed in the light of critical and intensive observations of other works conducted by other researchers.

The research design contains both descriptive and qualitative types of data that is presented in tables of numerical values, frequencies and percentages of each process-type of transitivity, are discussed, and interpreted.

The results of the study reveal the existence of the six process-types of transitivity system that found in the study sample, namely the material process, the mental process, the relational process, the behavioural process, the verbal process, and the existential process.

The findings of the study indicate that the material process is the most dominant transitivity process of all other processes with a percentage of 38.070%, followed by the mental process as the second most frequently occurring transitivity process with a percentage of 21.157%, and the third most frequently occurring transitivity process is the relational with a percentage of 17.749%.

Furthermore, the findings show that the protagonist character is represented, through the material process, as dynamic, discovery-seeker, curious, venturesome, actvie and energetic, the mental process represents the protagonist's character as thoughtful, acute and ambitious, and the relational process represents the protagonist's character as sentimental and emotional, thoughtful and prideful of her identity.

Based on the findings of the study, a number of suggestions are proposed for further research.
