English Abstract
The purpose of this study was to enrich the 11th -grade physics textbook with the most effective thinking skills.
To achieve that, this study attempted to investigate the prediction of physics achievement by critical thinking skills, and logical thinking skills.
The researcher used a mixed-method research design.
Quantitative data were collected by the California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST), Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT), and content analysis tool.
The (CCTST) was comprised of three components of critical thinking: analysis, evaluation, and inference.
The (TOLT) was comprised of four components of logical thinking: controlling variables, proportional reasoning, probabilistic reasoning, and correlational reasoning.
These factors and variables were further confirmed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA).
The sample of the study comprised 228 (152 females and 76 males) 11thgrade secondary students selected randomly from three schools in West Gaza.
Data were analyzed by descriptive analyses, correlation analyses, FMOLS multiple regression analysis, and path analysis.
The results of the predictive model indicated that the students’ scores of proportional reasoning, inference, probabilistic reasoning, and controlling variables were statistically significant predictors of physics achievement scores, explaining (16%) of the variance of physics achievement scores.
In addition, probabilistic reasoning had a statistically significant positive direct effect on physics achievement and had statistically significant positive indirect effects on physics achievement via inference.
The results of the content analysis indicate that probabilistic reasoning has the lowest number of frequencies in the 11thgrade physics textbook.
The 11th -grade physics textbook was enriched in the light of indicators of the predictive model.
Qualitative data was collected by two focus groups interviews, to explore the perception of experts on the impact of the enriched 11th -grade physics textbook on the achievement of 11thgrade students and their physics self-efficacy.
The study concluded that if the enriched 11th -grade physics textbook is implemented by the trained physics teacher, it can help to develop students' achievement in physics and their self-efficacy.
The study recommended that further empirical research should be undertaken to investigate the effect of the enriched 11th -grade physics textbook on physics achievement and self-efficacy.
