Arabic Abstract

السرطان مرض متعدد الأوجه يمثل أحد الأسباب الرئيسية للوفيات في البلدان المتقدمة.

في جميع أنحاء العالم، واحدة من كل ثماني وفيات بسبب السرطان، و هذا هو السبب الثاني الأكثر شيوعاً للوفاة في الولايات المتحدة، و تجاوز فقط عن طريق أمراض القلب.

دراسة خصائص مرضى السرطان و تأثيره الاقتصادي على المريض مهم لأنه يمكننا من فهم الوضع الوبائي للمرض في البلاد و رصد خصائص ممارسات إدارة الأمراض.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى استكشاف الخصائص السريرية و العلاجية لمرضى السرطان في العراق.

بالإضافة إلى ذلك، قدمت هذه الدراسة تقديراً للأثر الاقتصادي للسرطان من منظور المريض في العراق.

شارك ما يقارب 500 مريض في هذه الدراسة.

و كان 15.29% من المرضى لديهم السرطان النقيلي.

و كانت أكثر أنواع السرطان انتشاراً سرطان التدي بين الإنات، و سرطان المبيض (بين الإنات) و سرطان الغدد الليمفاوية، بنسبة 53.996 في المائة و 10.5 في المائة و 8.6 في المائة على التوالي.

الآثار الجانبية لعلاج السرطان الأكثر شيوعاً بين مرضى السرطان الغثيان والقيء، و فقدان الشعر، و فقدان الشهية كانت الآثار الجانبية الأكثر انتشارا علاج السرطان مع 85.2، %75.2، و %54.2، على التوالي.

و يبلغ متوسط التكلفة الإجمالية للإدارة 2765.0 دولاراً (معدل الذكاء: 888.7 4 دولاراً).

كان هناك فرق بعدد به إحصائياً في متوسط تكلفة إدارة السرطان على أساس مرحلة المرض، و كانت المرحلة (0.05>p) الثانية من المرضى لديهم تكلفة متوسطة أقل مقارنة بالمرضى الآخرين.

كان نوع السرطان محدداً آخر يؤثر على تكلفة إدارة السرطان، وكان المرضى الذين يعانون من سرطان (0.05>p) المعدة و القولون و الكبد و الدماغ مختلفاً إحصائياً عن الآخرين.

English Abstract

Cancer is a multifaceted disease that represents one of the leading causes of mortality in developed countries.

Worldwide, one in eight deaths are due to cancer and it is the second most common cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart disease.

Studying characteristics of cancer patients and its economic impact on the patient is important as it enables us to understand the epidemiological status of the disease in the country and to monitor characteristics of disease management practices.

This study aimed to explore the clinical and therapeutic characteristics of cancer patients in Iraq.

Additionally, this study provided an estimate on the economic impact of cancer from patient perspective in Iraq.

A total of 500 patients were involved in this study.

A total of 15.2% of the patients had metastatic cancer.

The most prevalent types of cancer were breast cancer (among females), ovarian cancer (among females) and lymphoma, with 53.9%, 10.5%, and 8.6%, respectively.

The most commonly reported cancer therapy side effects among cancer patients.

Nausea and vomiting, hair loss, and appetite loss were the most prevalent cancer therapy side effects with 85.2%, 75.2%, and 54.2%, respectively.

The median total management cost is 2,765.0$ (IQR: 4,888.7$).

There was a statistically significant difference in the median cancer management cost based on the stage of the disease, were stage two patients had a lower median cost compared to other patients (p<0.05).

Type of cancer was another determinant that affected cancer management cost, were patients with stomach, colon, liver, and brain cancer statistically differed from others (p<0.05).
