Abstract EN

The subject of this study pertains to one of the challenges confronting the Sunnah of the Prophet nowadays; namely historicist readings of it.

The study is divided into three main parts.

The first part addresses the historicist reading, including the concept and its foundation.

In this regard, historicism is defined as a modernist concept.

The first part also defines the Sunnah of the Prophet and discusses the justifications for claiming that the Prophet's Sunnah is historicized in nature.

The second part concerns the applications of the historicist approach to the Sunnah of the Prophet, including the historicist focus on the issue of the documentation of the Sunnah as a historical act, upon which the modernists built their claim about the historicity of the Sunnah, and their denial of its relationship to revelation.

This part also discusses the question of agency or authenticity, denied by the historicist reading on the basis of an analysis of the phenomenon of revelation on the one hand, and on the deconstructing the hadith discourse, on the other.

Lastly, the third part is a critical approach to the historicist reading of the Sunnah, examining it methodologically and cognitively, in a way that shows the faulty nature of this reading.
