English Abstract

The study aimed to identify the leadership styles and their relationship to the level of class control among primary school teachers in the southern governorates of Palestine.

The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach, and designed two questionnaires; the first was used to measure the prevailing leadership styles and consisted of (44) items; the second questionnaire was used to measure teachers’ level of class control, and it consisted of (24) items.

The study sample included (431) male and female teachers drawn from a population of (6,632) male and female teachers.

The study reached the following results: 1.

The prevailing leadership styles among primary school teachers in the southern governorates of Palestine are according to the ranking, the democratic pattern with relative weight (82.98%), followed by the missionary style with relative weight (73.99%), and the dictatorial style with relative weight (73.11%).

There are no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α≤0.05) between the average scores of the sample’s estimates of the leadership styles prevailing among primary school teachers due to the gender variable, and in the second and third domains, while there are differences in the first domain, "autocratic style" in favour of male teachers.

There were no statistically significant differences due to the variable of years of service.

There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α≤0.05) between the average scores of the sample’s estimates of the leadership styles prevailing among primary school teachers attributable to the academic qualification variable, as well as in the second domain “democratic style” and the third domain “missionary style” in favour of holders of a bachelor’s degree, while there are no differences in the first domain "autocratic style".

The level of class control among primary school teachers in the southern governorates of Palestine was very large with a relative weight of (86.06%).

There are no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α≤0.05) between the average scores of the sample’s estimates of the level of class control among primary school teachers due to the variables of gender, academic qualification, and years of service.

There is a strong positive correlation between the average scores of the sample’s estimates of the leadership styles prevailing among primary school teachers and the averages of the scores for their estimates of their class control level.

Based on the previous results, the researcher recommends the following: - Promote the democratic leadership style of teachers to enable the relationship between them and students.

- The necessity of conducting workshops on class control skills and the importance of self-discipline.
