The study aimed to identify the differences between the independent and the dependent on the cognitive domain in the critical writing performance among students of the faculty of arts, Port Said university.

134 participants divided by gender into male and female students.

inform all students of the purpose of the research experiment conducted on them.

students knew that their grades will not be affected by their performance on the experiment.

the criminal psychology course was chosen because it is a socio-philosophical course that can formulate argumentative problems and that the issues studied are life issues that the learner sees and listens to in the media.

the study relied on the descriptive analytical method (content analysis).

the study used the Fuhrmann & Jacobs cognitive styles scale (1980).

critical writing performance scores were estimated by analyzing the content in the light of standards and rubrics.
