Abstract EN

This paper is a socio-historical study of the French civil community activating in Algeria during the occupation.

this study focuses on the scientific-like associations under the umbrella of the French civil community in Algeria at that time, which explicit function is scientific, but we believe that they had implicit political, social and cultural function.

they represent one the most significant mechanism of the French colonization, which it relies upon to meet the destructive and the colonizing objectives, through a close and a better understanding of the Algerian individual's culture, identity and way of thinking, to ease their orientation and domination.

to meet the objectives of this study, we have adopted the historical method focusing on the French scientific association, which were multiple and diverse but unified under one clear and determined objective.
