Teaching translation requires paying special attention to the terminology used in this discipline.

it is widely argued that terminology is the key to science so that the later can’t be reached without understanding the former.

the developments recently witnessed in the field of translation were accompanied by a huge number of concepts founding translation theories through the use of different terms.

the present paper attempts to shed light on some of those terms and how they got translated into Arabic; many aquivalents are given in Arabic for one and the same single term in English.

drawing on a comparative approach, the case study of this pape ris limited to translation procedures suggested by Vinay and Darbelnet.
