Abstract EN

Obesity is often defined as a condition of abnormal or excessive fat accumulation in adipose tissue, to the extent that health may be impaired.

It is a significant risk factor for major diseases including Type II diabetes, coronary heart disease, hypertension and certain forms of cancer.

Obesity arises when energy intake, principally stored as triglycerides, exceeds energy expenditure.

Obesity is a complex trait influenced by diet, developmental stage, age, physical activity and genes.

The cinnamon extract is reported to have various activity such as antidiabetic, antiobesity and antihyperlipidemic activities in experimental animals.

The present study evaluated the antiobesity and hypolipidemic effects of aqueous cinnamon extract in obese rabbits fed high fat diet (HFD).

Rabbits were divided to 2 groups; normal and experimental groups.

Group-A: normal or negative control with ten rabbits; Group-B: positive control; This group divided to 2 subgroups with ten rabbits each; Subgroup-1: HFD fed rabbits without treatment with aqueous extracts of cinnamon; Subgroup-2: HFD fed rabbits that treated with 400 mg/kg b.

wt cinnamon aqueous extract once a day for six consecutive weeks.

The results showed significant differences between treated and control groups.

That were clearly demonstrated by improving body weights and decreasing levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol and LDL-C, HDL-C and fasting blood glucose when compared to positive control rabbit group.

These results concluded that the ability of extracts as a drug for obesity and hypolipidemic effects.

The results in this research will contribute to the understanding the role of cinnamon extract in reducing body weight.

Thus, our work is expected to contribute to the aim of development of new drugs.
