Abstract EN

The research aimed to explore useful semantic web technologies and digital library science-based applications.

It also studied the perceptions of university and academic librarians in Egypt about semantic web technologies and their use in digital libraries.

An Exploratory Research design based on Delphi search strategy was conducted to answer research questions.

Interviews with a representative sample of 50 specialists, including university and academic librarians, were conducted to explore their perceptions of semantic web technologies and their use in digital libraries.

Thematic analysis of the interview data was performed to obtain the results.

The results showed that DuraCloud, semantic information gathering, OntoEdit and Resource Description Framework (RDF) are various semantic web applications that are useful for digital libraries to develop semantic relationships between digital content and increase their accessibility in the web environment.

The results revealed that the semantic web provides accurate results and meets user information needs in an efficient manner.

The results also showed that next-generation digital libraries use context recognition technology, smart object software, and discover sensors to analyze user information needs and provide dynamic information services.

This paper recommended that librarians should embrace the use of emerging web technologies in libraries and provide library services through the Internet.
