Abstract EN

Rafal n.al-Khero “the bibliographic framework data model (BIBFRAME: bibliographic framework) and the possibility of using it as an alternative to the marc21 record in libraries and information centers (a survey of samples from local libraries)” catalog and cataloging is one of the library procedures most affected by the revolution of developments in the library arena in the twenty-first century, and the current study came to shed light on the BIBFRAME data model as one of the latest standards put forward in the arena to standardize indexing practices and achieve quality control, integration and linking between library catalog and the network environment, and even make those catalog a part of that environment to interact with different search tools and their users.

as well as identifying the relationship of the model to BIBFRAME with the marc 21 record by reviewing the reactions of a sample consisting of (17) libraries and information centers at the academic and university level in Iraq about this framework and the possibility of shifting its catalog towards using it as an alternative to the marc 21 record.

and the researcher adopted the survey method.

the study found a set of results, the most important of which is that although the BIBFRAME model is a new and advanced stage of the bibliographic description process and increases the efficiency of search and retrieval processes in information institutions and their integration with the networking environment, the marc 21 record is still used and strongly both at the local level as it appeared in the analysis of the results of the questionnaire, or the global level, through what has been issued so far in terms of continuous updates amendments to the record.
