Abstract EN

A pots experiment was carried out on the wooden canopy at Department of Horticulture and Lanscape Gardening, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad-Al-Jadria, during spring season 2020, using sandy clay loam soil, to study of effectiveness of inoculation with mycorrhiza and compost application on the growth of corn (Zea mays L.

).

Five mycorrhizal treatments were used: non mycorrhizal treatment (without inoculum) which is symbolized as (M0), Glomus mosseae inoculum treatment (M1), Glomus intradices, Inoculum treatment (M2), Glomus spp.

Inoculum treatment (M3), inoculum of roots infected by mycorrhizae which were collected from soils of field crops(M4).

With the constant amount 100g of inoculum per pot.

Two levels of wheat straw compost (without application and 15 ton h-1 and C: N Ratio = 1: 20 with three replicate.

The experiment comprised of 30 experimental units in accordance with complete Randomized design (CRD).

Results showed difference in treatment in their ability to promote corn growth cornpare with no inoculation All mycorrhizal treatments were superior gave results for plant height, dry shoot, dry root, leaf surface area, leaf chlorophyll content and the percentage of root infection with mycorrhiza.

While M1, M2 treatment were superior in their properties.

The combination application of mycorrhiza with compost led to better results, M1C1treatment revealed a significant increase in dry weight of the shoot growth and leaf surface area in an increase of 135.4% , 68.2% respectively as compared to control treatment.
