Abstract EN
The area of Al-Najmi agricultural project was chosen for the purpose of studying the spatial distribution of the characteristics of the ground water, the quality of the water in it and its suitability for agricultural uses.
The project is located between longitudes 44⁰ 26′ 00" and 45⁰ 10′ 00″ and latitudes 31⁰ 30′ 00" and 31⁰ 40′ 00″, with an area of 25, 000 hectares.
Ground water salinity was measured for twenty-five randomly distributed sites in the study area, as well as pH, sodium adsorption ratio, water content of nitrates, cations and anions.
The spatial distribution of the salinity of the ground water were mapped and it was found that the most dominant class was located within the range 8-16 dS m-1 with the salinity class S3 salinity, followed by the highly saline variety S4 with a salinity range higher than 16 dS m-1, and some sites showed good varieties of Ground water salinity area S2 and S1.
The nitrate content of the ground water showed a dominant variety with a range of 10-20 mg kg-1, followed by the cultivar less than 10 mg kg-1.
As for the quality of ground water, according to the classification of the American Soil Salinity Laboratory, the C4S2 class showed dominance in the study area, followed by C4S4 and then C4S3.
