Abstract EN

Definiteness and indefiniteness often play a pivotal role in the structure of the Arabic sentence, especially when the noun has a rection (ʿamal) on other nouns.

If general opinion has settled that the system of determination in the Arabic language is based on the precedence of a noun with (al) or by adding it to another noun (Iḍafa), how can nouns not defined by (al) or not added to another noun (Iḍafa), have the effect of rection (ʿamal) on other nouns? This research attempts to investigate the reality of nunation (tanween) in the structure of the Arabic sentence based on the assumption that it is a definite tool, not an indefinite tool.

The research will examine the hypothesis that nunation (tanween) fills the place of the addition (Iḍafa), indicating the completeness or sufficiency of the noun, which allows it to perform the rection (ʿamal).

The research is based on the idea of the formal marking of some linguistic units, as some cases of accusative or nominative cannot be justified through rection theory (ʿamal).
