Abstract EN

Three extracts (methanolic, ethanolic and aqueous) were prepared from peel of either sweet or sour punica granatum spp .

the antibacterial effect of the previous extracts was studied against kelbsiella pneumoniae and bacillus cereus by using well diffusion method and compared to cefotaxime and tetracycline as references.

the methanolic extract possessed the largest weight compared to the ethanolic or aqueous extract.

the results showed that the extract of sweet pomegranate are more effective than the extract of sour, the mean of inhibition zone diameters of the inhibition of the extract sweet pomegranate were 18±2.0 mm compered to the mean of inhibition zone diameters of the inhibition of the extract of sour pomegranate were13±1.0 mm ،also the metanolic extracts showed antibacterial effect similar to the effect of the reference antibiotic-the mean of inhibition zone diameters in response to sweet and sour pomegranate methanolic extracts against K.

pneumoniae and B.

cereus were (18±2.0, 13±1.0 mm) (29±2.0, 25±1.5 mm) respectively.

as a result, the extracts of pomegranate appeared to have an antibacterial effect against gram positive and gram negative bacteria.

In addition, they were more effective on gram positives.
