Abstract EN

The objective of this study was to development a novel formulation of nystatin (Nys), that could be administered systemically and might be used for therapy of leishmaniasis.

solid lipid microparticle was prepared using microemulsion method, then the solid lipid microparticle dispersions were spray dried to stabilize the solid lipid microparticle, by using albumin as a carrier for the preparation of microspheres.

microspheres were morphologically characterized, particle size and product yield for drug polymer interactions were evaluated.

anti-leishmanial activity against leishmania tropica was tested.

the average size of the prepared microspheres were less than 2 μm, and the obtained microspheres were spherical in shape.

fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed no significant interactions between albumin and Nys.

differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed decreased melting point of nystatin in the physical mixture of Nys and GMS.

the anti-leishmanial activity of Nys microparticles was higher than that for the free Nys, with an IC50 value (21.5 μg/mL).
