Prostaglandin d2 synthase pgd2s, also known as β-trace, is one of the most abundant glycoproteins in human CSF; it is synthesized and secreted by both glial cells and the choroid plexus.

it synthesizes of prostaglandin pgd2 from pgh2, and plays an important role in context of pathways related to cellular proliferation, cell cycle regulation, anti-inflammatory role and innate immune functions.

that is expected to be modulated during cancer progression, and it has extracellular protease inhibitory properties, which restrict tumor growth in tissue.

to evaluate prostaglandin d2 synthase levels in CSF in children as a diagnostic marker for brain tumors, we determined pgd2s levels in a group of children with brain tumors (cases n=30) and in a group of healthy children (control, n=22).

pgd2s levels were lower in group of patients (52.83 μg/ml) than control (61.51 μg/ml), (p< 0.05), and according to the roc curve (AUC= 0.72, p< 0.05) the cut off was 53.55 μg /ml (PPV= 0.60, NPV= 1.00).
