Novel spectrophotometric method for the determination of silodosin in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage forms

This paper describes a new ,accurate, precise spectrophotometric method for the determination of Silodosin in bulk and capsules.

The method is a derivatization method based on condensation of N-alkylvinylamine formed from the interaction of the secondary amino group in the investigated drug and acetaldehyde with 3,4,5,6 tetrachloro1, 2 benzoquinone (O-chloranil) to form a purple colored product, exhibiting maximum absorption (\ max) at 560nm.

The molar ratio between the drug and reagent was determined.

The linear relationship was found between the absorbances and the concentrations of Silodosin in a concentration range of 30-120 ^g/ml, with correlation coefficient R2=0.9997.

The accuracy (as recovery %) of the method was satisfactory, within-day, and between day precision (as RSD) were<2%.

When applied to the determination of Silodosin in pharmaceutical dosage forms, the results were in good agreement with those obtained by high performance liquid chromatography.
