The research aimed to compare the chemical composition of the essential oil in the aerial parts of two wide spread species Teucrium in Syria (Teucrium Polium and Teucrium Creticum).
The essential oils have been obtained by hydro distillation and the chemical composition determined using GC/MS.
The results show that T.
Polium species contains 52 components (95.59% of the total composition).
The major components determined were: Camphor (18%), beta Pinene (9.6%), Germacrene D (7.1%), Beta Caryophyllene (6.8%), Bicycle Germacrene (4.4%), and the essential oil of T.
Creticum contains 50 components (98.8% of the total composition), the main compounds were: beta Caryophyllene (18%), Bicycle Germacrene (9.4%), Germacrene B (10%), Gamma elemene (9.1%), Caryophyllen .)oxide (7%
