Abstract EN
Thirty five cotton genotypes, including Syrian and introduced varieties, were used to study cottonseed oil content and composition and to detect molecular markers associated to oil and some fatty acids.
The genotype Long fiber-5 had the highest oil content (27.18), and the lowest (12.72) was obtained from line 106-2.
Oleic acid percentages ranged between 15.36 (Deir Al Zour 22) and 26.41 (Karank-1), and it was noted that the lowest value of oleic acid (15.36) corresponded to the highest one for linoleic acid (54.97).
On the other hand, palmitic acid percentages oscillated between 21.72 (Line 124) and 27.56 (Chirpan 432), while, stearic acid constituted only a small percentage of oil seeds content with values ranging between 2.15 (Brown 15) and 3.38 (Karank-1).
Regarding oil and oleic acid percentages, Karank-1(26.29% oil, and 26.41% oleic acid) was selected to be the best genotype for further breeding programs.
Molecular markers obtained by 20 SSR primers allowed us to detect two markers associated to oil content (NAU755-4, CIR002-1) and only one marker (NAU918-3) was linked to oleic acid synthesis.-
