Abstract EN

Title of the paper: (Ibn Abbas’s Categorization of Tafseer-An Analytical Study), andIt aims at verifying and grading the narration reported from Ibn Abbas on the categorization of Tafseer, and studying the scholarly issues related to the categorization.

The research was based on the inductive, analytical and critical methodology, which resulted -by the grace of Allaah- in a number of findings, the most significant of which are: The acceptance of the mawquf version of this narration from Ibn ‘Abbaas, and the reliance of the recognition of the categorization on three matters: al-Idrak (realization), al-Masdar (source), and al-Hukm (ruling), which revolve around: the knowledge of the Glorious Qur’an, with the explanation of the reason behind each category in its place.

It became apparent through the research that al-Tabari was the first to elaborately discuss the categorization, then al-Mawardi benefitted from him and he also added to it, then al-Zarkashi paraphrased the text of al-Mawardi with some additions, then al-Suyuti copied the text of al-Zarkashi verbatim, and among those who gave attention to this categorization among the contemporary scholars is Dr.

Musa‘id al-Tayyar.

The impact of Theology on the categorization of some scholars was apparent, and the fact that al-Huruf al-Muqatta‘a (the separated letters) were not among the ones whose meanings are exclusively known to Allaah, and that it is incorrect to regard what is inexcusable for a Muslim as what is conceived in the first impression, and that there is nothing that Allaah made peculiar to the Prophet -peace and blessing upon him- that the Qur’an will not be understood without it, and the outweighing of the indication of the narration on differentiating between Tafseer and Tahweel in some of its narrations, and its indication to the fact that the Prophet -peace and blessing upon him- did not interpret the whole Qur’an, and its indication to the milestones of Tafseer with condemned opinion, and the sources of the Science of Tafseer, and its proofs, and the jurisprudential rulings related to it, and the weakness of the indication of the narration to the outweighing of any of the two opinions over the other on the puzzling verse “al-Mutashabih”.

Among the recommendations of the research include: The study of the verse of al-Mutashabih in Surah Al-‘Ilmran from the perspective of Tafseer and the Sciences of the Qur’an and the Creed, and the compilation of the narrations of the pious predecessors that are express on the fundamentals of Tafseer and their study, and the derivation of the fundamentals of Tafseer according to the pious predecessors from the wholeness of their practical applications.
