Lexical richness and authorial style characterization

Abstract EN

This paper is intended to present a descriptive overview of one of the characteristics of the writing style, i.e, lexical richness.

It clarifies the role of this characteristic in identifying and characterizing a given author’s employment of lexical items.

It also presents the different lexical measures subsumed under the heading of lexical richness: lexical diversity, lexical sophistication, lexical originality and lexical density; together with the statistical formulae of measuring each of them in any given text.

In addition, other quantitative textual features that can be used in studying an author’s writing style are to be tackled.
