Abstract EN

There have been many studies and researches that have been written about the Ayyubid state in its various political, economic, social and civilizational fields, but they have omitted some aspects in the civilizational aspect.

These studies, despite their abundance, hardly mention anything about entertainment in this age, as if it were devoid of these recreational practices, despite their abundance and diversity, and the passion of the Ayyubid sultans and different categories of the Egyptian and Levantine society for them, as if life in this age had become completely barren and rough, although the reality and what is stated in the sources that dated the Ayyubid state confirms the existence of many means of entertainment and recreation, one of these means is the singing and music councils, which this study attempts to shed light on, which is an important aspect of social life in Egypt and the Levant that reveals another face of the people in power, and shows an aspect of the history of the Ayyubid state that has not received a proper share of study and research.

The research highlighted this aspect starting with talking about singing and its councils before the Ayyubid era, and then talking about the topic of research, by talking about the conditions of singing and music in the Ayyubid era, and the position of Salah al-Din on singing and singing councils during his reign, the interest of some of his successors from the sultans of BaniAyyub in singing and bringing singers closer to them, as well as the interest of princes and notables in singing and music councils, and talked about the demand of writers to hear singing in their private councils and banquets, and about the public demand in Egypt and the Levant to hear singing and attend singing councils.

Finally, the research included a biography of the famous masters of singing and music in this era, followed by a conclusion that included the most important findings reached, and a mention of the sources and references that were relied upon, the research dealt with all these aspects and revealed them, relying on contemporary and reliable historical and literary sources.
