Abstract EN

Challenging behaviors are common in children with autism spectrum disorder, and they are also a deficit in social skills.

The current paper aimed to examine the association between challenging behaviors and social skills in children with Autism spectrum Disorder.

It also examined differences among males and females in challenging behaviors and social skills.

It also aimed to identify the extent to which social skills could predict challenging behaviors in participants.

For this purpose, challenging behaviors for the children with autism spectrum disorder scale (by the researcher) and social skills for children with autism spectrum disorder scale (by the researcher) were applied.

The descriptive correlational approach was used.

82 male and female children with Autism Spectrum Disorder aged between 5-12 years have participated in this study.

They were chosen from six autism programs in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).

The findings revealed a statistically negative significant correlation between challenging behaviors and social skills among children with autism spectrum disorder.

The study also found no statistically significant differences in challenging behaviors and social skills according to gender (male/ female).

In contrast, social skills could be predicted by challenging behaviors (strange behaviors).
