Abstract EN

Aim of the study: The study seeks to identify the most important social changes that affected the Bahraini family's structure with respect to its components, characteristics, and functions.

The study also aims to identify the most important positive and negative aspects that resulted from these transformations.

Methodology: the sample size was 20 head of families; 10 rural and 10 urban families.

The study relied on a standardized interview to collect data from the respondents, and the descriptive and analytical qualitative method was used.

Results: the study concluded that there were changes that occurred in the shape and size of both rural and urban families.

This change included a shift from the extended family pattern to the small nuclear family pattern with all its characteristics and features.

The analysis also revealed that the context of the contemporary Bahraini family's social life has undergone important transformations.

Conclusion: the study concluded that there was a need to support the role of the family through the various institutions and organizations concerned with it and its problems such as (social affairs, places of worship, civil institutions and other institutions) so that it can perform its most important traditional function namely, the function of social upbringing of the children.
