Abstract EN

This research aims to identify trade transport (transit) in the Red Sea during the 13th century (H) / 19th century (G).

This period witnessed a thriving trade (transit) movement in the Red Sea basin and its bordering seaports.

The importance of this study springs from the significance of the Red Sea itself as well as the direction of the goods and merchandise moved or transported through this important, vital and strategic corridor during the period of the study.

The research has followed a descriptive-analytical historical approach in order to arrive at the conclusions: the ancient flourishing trade through the Red Sea in general, and the use of transit specifically; the progress in marine transport had a direct impact on the development of trade transit in the Red Sea; and the influence of trade transit on the growth and development of the Red Sea ports through time.
