The struggle between society and the individual in search for his freedom looms throughout his plays.
In Pillars of Society, Ibsen portrays his protagonists as social rebels who seek freedom facing social codes.
His heroines choose the path that leads to freedom and, at the same time, shows the consequences of adherence to social dictates.
