Abstract EN

This research aims to identify the characteristics of sandstorm phenomenon in Alhasa province, in the eastern part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its causes, distribution, and general trend.

The importance of research lies in the impact of storms on human health, environment, and activities.

The research relied on the climatic data available in the meteorological and environmental protection station in Al-Ahsa Airport during the study period 1985-2017.

The inductive approach was used, together with the inferential approach.

Several methods were used, namely the quantitative method.

SPSS and cartographic method.

The most important results are: Sandstorms are a northern seasonal phenomenon, where their frequency reached 674 storms during the study period.

Spring is the season where storms are the most frequent (45%).

while the fall semester is the least frequent (6.2%).

Winter comes second and summer third.

The pressure gradient is the biggest factor affecting the occurrence of storms.

In addition the such as air depressions, fronts and air masses.

The results showed an increase of sandstorm during the last eleven years.

The study recommends need for the expansion of green areas, sand bumpers, and pay attention to storms in urban planning and environment.
