Abstract EN

This research aims to evaluate and analyze the relationship between the evolution of press legislations to the development of political and social conditions, to identify the legal rules that regulate the work of the press, to reveal the forms of newspaper ownership, and to determine the most prominent differences and consensus, between the legislation to licensing the issuance of newspapers in the Kingdom of Bahrain, from 1938 until 2002.

The research relied on two methods: the historical and the survey, and a number of tools, the most prominent of which are reviewing and analyzing the most important documents and texts related to the subject of the research, and interviewing four specialists in law, media and documentation.The research has reached a set of results, the most important of which were: the political and social conditions have greatly affected the evolution and change of press legislations, and that all press legislations necessitated the method of licensing newspapers, and that some of these legislations granted the government complete freedom to refuse the license application without giving any reasons, and that all press regulations in Bahrain obligate anyone who obtains a license to publish a newspaper to deposit a "financial security", and that the forms of ownership of newspapers have changed significantly from the ownership of natural persons, to natural persons, legal persons, and finally limited to commercial companies.
