Abstract EN

Suakin city used to be both, the main port and the most important city on the Red Sea coast.

It commercially flourished after it had been annexed to Egypt in 1865.

Its population consisted of different emigrating ethnics with different cultural background.

Having studied Mr “Ibrahim Hamo” biography has showed the researcher the social and cultural aspects of its community.

This study aims to shed hight on the social life of community of Suakin city and make clear how that multi ethnic community had impacts on the both, social and cultural life of Sukin and the area around.

Having studied both, the life of the prominent figure from Suakin community and how he participated in cultural life as well as establishing the administrative work in the Sudan and problems of life characterized Red Sea area particularly Suakin city would prove how significance this study is.

The researcher has used the historical, descriptive and analytical method.

Among the findings, the researcher has concluded that Suakin played an important role in enlightenment and transformed the Sudan to the modernism and got it to open its doors to the neighboring Arab and Islamic nations.

The study has made clear that the cultural life in Suakin was rich due to the multi-cultural and multi ethnic community.

It also made clear that Mr “Ibrahim Hamo” was a cultural, intellectual and administrative pioneer in the Sudan.
