This study presents some results that aim to determine the perceptions of teachers in Jordan about professional development based on new trends in professional development, and analyze the impact of gender, years of educational experience, type of supervisory authority (public education / private education) and the geographical location of the directorate on their training needs.

the study focuses on junior teachers in particular, those in the first year of their career in the academic year 2020/2021.

a sample of 706 male and female teachers in public and private education in all education directorates in Jordan completed an electronic questionnaire about the training needs of in-service teachers.

the study followed the quantitative approach, represented in the design of the study tool, which included 61 paragraphs distributed on (8) pillars (education in Jordan, personal philosophy and professional ethics, academic and educational knowledge, learning and teaching, learning environment, sustainable professional development, learning for life, and requirements electives for general standards as needed) and verified for its reliability and validity.

the results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (p ≥ 0.05) in the trends of the study sample‘s vocabulary about (general training needs for teachers) according to the study variables: gender, type of supervising authority, educational experience and the location of the directorate (center, north, south), where it was found that there are differences attributed to gender in favor of males, differences due to the type of supervisor in favor of private education, differences due to experience in favor of junior teachers from (1-5) years, and differences are attributed to the location of the directorate in favor of the directorates of the north versus the directorates of the south, which require the least training from them.

the study recommended the necessity of training junior and expert teachers on the topics revealed.

pay more attention to general training needs, as it is the first step in planning training programs.
