Abstract EN

Aim: To determine the frequency of modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease in patients with psoriasis in a tertiary hospital in Jordan.

Methods: This study enrolled 147 patients with uncomplicated psoriasis from the outpatient Dermatology clinic at King Hussein Hospital of the Jordanian Medical Services.

Demographic data related to the study were recorded.

After 14 hours of fasting, venous blood samples were drawn to determine the levels of cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL, and LDL.

History of smoking, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension was recorded.

Body mass index and Framingham's 10-year risk score of each patient were calculated.

Results: The mean age of the male population was 44.37 years, and that of females was 37.83 years.

The male gender was more common (68.7%).

About 24.49% of the study population had one modifiable risk factor.

The most frequent risk factor observed in the study was dyslipidemia (61.9%), followed by smoking (56.5%).

Diabetes mellitus was the least frequent risk factor, with a frequency of 12.9%.

Framingham's cardiovascular risk score differed significantly between the sexes, with the risk score of males being 11.41, whereas that of females was 1.54 (p < 0.00).

Regression analysis revealed that the duration of disease increased the odds ratio of hypertension and decrease the odds ratio of smoking (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: Psoriasis patients have increased chances of developing cardiovascular risk factors leading to cardiovascular events.
