Abstract EN

Different literary genres have introduced a rich portrait of Jerusalem that intrigued researchers to explore the city further; with the aim of understanding the intimate relationship that man has with this unique place.

Travel literature, in particular, has contributed to the revelation of this portrait’s different layers: intellectual, geographical, historical, scientific, social and cultural .

This paper aims to manifest the various components of the portrait of the city of Jerusalem and its various representations as they appear in the writings of three Muslim travelers: Ibn al-Haj al-Abdari’s The Moroccan Journey, Ibn Battuta’s Rihla and Ibn Nubata’s Rihla.

The three travelers visited the city, lived there for a period of time, during the Mameluke era, and recorded their impressions of the city after their return to their homes .

This paper adopts a descriptive analytical approach to introduce the details of the city as they appear in the common features that are introduced and highlighted in all three journeys.

Additionally, an artistic approach has been added to manifest the artistic qualities that are present in all three texts.

This approach adds to the academic research an aesthetic element that should not be overlooked.
