Abstract EN

This research aims to introduce shamanic beliefs in terms of their nature and history and focus on the main feature on which they are based, which is the belief in the existence of a metaphysical world consisting of gods and spirits and the possibility of communicating with them through the characteristic of trance and ecstasy, as well as, the shaman person who is the essential component around which these beliefs revolve, and explains the phenomenon of the change in shamanic consciousness, clarifying its divisions, and highlights the position of Islam towards it by revealing its truth.

This research has reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which is that: Shamanism, according to Western concepts, is a magical religious phenomenon that has special belief features, which led to the emergence of many deviant practices that exist sporadically in almost all religions and cultures .

And that shaman is the only one who is able to satisfy the human need of communicating with the sacred divine, according to his claim, through his ability to release his soul and fly it to the metaphysical realms.

He goes through several situations of change in consciousness which are called Trance, that includes possession and ecstasy, which differ in terms of their nature and control over them.

The shaman evokes this state of trance in his sessions; by means of drum, dance, narcotics and methods of torture frequently, providing healing and divination services to members of his community.

Finally, what the shaman believes in, whether the souls of ancestors or gods that communicate with him, are in fact creatures of elves and demons, and the shaman is a magician who works with their help by entering into a state of epilepsy and madness, which is shown by the shaman and those who are like him as an ecstasy and trance; that are achieved when communicating with the sacred, and whoever believes in the supernatural of human capabilities represented in healing diseases and knowledge of the unseen, then he becomes a polytheist.
