Abstract EN

This study aimed to know the effectiveness of family marital counseling, which is based on the theory of social exchange, in reducing the problems of marital compatibility among a sample of married couples in Baquba district.

As for the program sample, it consisted of (32) husbands and wives, who obtained the highest scores on the marital compatibility problems scale.

The participants in the study were randomly distributed into two control and experimental groups of (16) husbands and wives in each group, and the marriage compatibility problems scale was built, which included (32) items.

The construction and stability were extracted by the re-test method.

A counseling program was built according to the theory of social exchange, and the counseling program was applied to the experimental group.

The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences on the scale of marital adjustment problems between the experimental group and the control group, after applying the program, and also showed the presence of Statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group members on the scale before and after the application of the program, and the researcher also developed some recommendations and suggestions.
