Shihab ad-Din Mahmud Al-Alusi played a major supportive role for the Ottoman Sultan in his conflict with Mohammed Ali Pasha, Governor of Egypt (1805-1849).

Ali Rıza Pasha, Governor of Baghdad (1831-1841), had asked his assistance in communicating withFaisal bin Turki Al Saud in Arabia to convince him to revolt against and to interpret a book encouraging people to obey and support the Sultan.

This has raised a problem that will be the main topic in this research.

How he supported the revolution of Davud Pasha, Governor of Baghdad (1817-1831), against the Ottoman Sultan in 1830? And how he supported Abdul Ghani Jamil Zada in his revolution against the Ottoman Governor in 1831 and then revolted after few months to support the Sultan against the governorofEgypt? The research will reviewthe reasons and motives behind that revolt through shedding light on Al-Alusi’s origin, birth, early life, masters, thought and attitude from the revolt of Davud Pasha, the revolution of Baghdad and the Egyptian expansion in Syria.

It will also show the reasons behind his turning from opposing to supporting the Ottoman Sultan, the results of this turn and whether he took such attitudes for material gain or religious influences.
